Back in the 90's, Sesame Street got R.E.M. to parody their own song, Shiny Happy People with this little nugget of joy. Covering it was no easy task, so a crack team of R.E.M. fanatics was assembled. Featuring Carey Anne on backing vocals and puppet wrangler, Keith Marshall on backing vocals and acoustic guitar, Scott Roberts on electric guitar, Gary Maher on organ and strings and Dave Thake on drums. I played bass and sang lead vocals. Oh yeah, someone invited Toby and the Cardinal. Seemed like a song they belong on. Enjoy!
lyrics
Furry happy monsters laughing
Monsters having fun,
Happy, happy
See them jump and run.
Happy, happy
laughing all the while
Cheerful cheerful
Flashing a big smile
That’s a perfect sign
That they’re feeling fine
Something has gone wrong,
Sighing, sighing.
Faces have turned long,
Crying, crying.
Hear them sob and whine,
Tearful, tearful.
That’s a real good sign,
That they’re feeling glum.
Sad, sad times have come.
Furry sobbing monsters feeling sad.
Furry sobbing monsters feeling sad.
Furry sobbing monsters crying.
Come on monsters, you don’t have to cry,
we can be happy!
Furry happy monsters feeling glad.
Furry happy monsters feeling glad.
Furry happy monsters laughing.
Furry sobbing monsters feeling sad.
Furry sobbing monsters feeling sad.
Furry sobbing monsters crying.
