This is my second year taking the NaSoAlMo challenge, which means you write and record an album all by yourself during the month of November with no pre-written material. Things were going fine on my project for the first week, and then 2016 election stopped me in my tracks. I had intended on finishing all of these tracks with lyrics or at least a spoken word story. In short, I feel I failed. I wanted to do better than last years attempt with Grimju, but November 2016 just wasn't my month. I lost my job, as did my girlfriend. I'd say the biggest ray of light to come out of this month was asking my girlfriend to marry me at the Magic Bag during a Smiths United concert. I even included the audio of the proposal as track 10.

Initially, I wanted to just back out of the challenge, as I figured releasing the first light of these songs would mean that they're finished and I would most likely never return to them. But I really want to finish these songs. Knowing that there are other people that are taking the same challenge want to see what I came up with, even though I only spent a few days on this challenge rather than a full month, made me want to post what I had as "demos".

Album work is of a graphiti mural by Hygienic Dress League on prominent display in the Dequindre Cut, in downtown Detroit.
